do you have windowblinds or some other sort of window 'enhancement' software installed? uninstall
close all unnecessary software - antivirus and everything
uninstall and reinstall latest videocard drivers
sacrifice a virgin to pagan gods
reinstall windows
your monitor can't have anything to do with it
unless it's got some obscure widescreen resolution on it that no game supports and plain fails to open a window with

Done all that except the OS reinstallation, I think there are some problems with my gfx card or drivers, I get some driver error from windows now when I run COD4, it all just goes black and then i get a error.
Anyhow i'm going to school soon so i'll be running a 6h stability test from the nvidia control panel and i'll see the results when I get back. If everything is fine i'll try to deinstall the latest drivers and then install older drivers and see if that works.
