I think I've got it, this episode revealed more than every other episode before, and I think I already know what the "smoke monster" is, imo the smoke monster is the disembodied consciousness of the people that died on the island, it's some kind of time travel paradox that the writers created. that is why only specific people had experienced the smoke, because it contains the consciousness of known people that died on the island, and that is also why the show sometimes seems to go into the road of the parapsychology, it's all because of the smoke. That's only what I think, but it makes some sense, especially after yesterday's episode.

Nah, I think that the whispers are the disembodied consciousness of the people that died on the island.
The smoke monster is just too... to mechanical Razz (the noises that it makes, the "scanning" of peoples memories and it's way of operating) to be a bunch of souls. And the show has firmly entered the parapsychology road in the latest episode by introducing the concept of a personal, non-physical consciousness( in other words SOULS).

BTW, anyone knows if spending your whole day in a communication room of a rescue ship counts as being exposed to radiation?

but despite of the mechanical sound, there is no physical mechanism within the smoke, we see this very clearly when the smoke gets smashed into the energy barrier in the 3rd season, and btw, have you noticed that the whispers only appear when the smoke monster or walt is around?

Not true, there have been several instances when people heard those whispers, and there was no smoke mechanism. Besides, didn't the producers said we have seen only few percent of the smoke monster?

Well, it was one of the best episodes of Lost. But was it ever revealed how Penny found out about the island?

I always thought that was explained in the season finale of Season 2. When Desmond turned the switch it sent out that pulse which revealed the island for a second and those people let Penny know that they found it.

Yes, but why was she looking for it? She obviously had those Spanish dudes (or whatever) looking for the island, so she knew of it before it showed up.

Obviously her father is connected and she didn't suddenly wake up one day and think to herself; ISLAND! DESMOND! SEARCH! WAIT FOR ELECTROMAGNETIC PULSE! WeeEeeeeeeeeeE.... oh, wee! Shouldn't have drunk so much last night Sad

Her father is obviously on of, if not the most involved people in the whole island scenario and in this episode we've seen how he found it - the auction he was in when Desmond found him was for Black Rock's journal (black rock is the slave trading ship where Jack and Daniel found the dynamite) so if the ship is on the island it's pretty logical to assume that it's journal contains hints on how to get to it.

I've got to watch more carefully. I saw that ship, but didn't even notice that they talked about the black rock Laughing I even said to myself, that there is sure some connection to the story Smile

crappy episode this week, but I hear the next one will be a bomb, guess Michael will return next week, it's still unknown if he is on the freighter or if he will appear on the island or in a flashback.

either way next week we will find who the 2 final oceanic 6 are, guess one of them is Sun, the other can probably be Michael or Jin

How the fuck can the people on the freighter know everybody from Oceanic Flight 815 and immediately recognize them on the island, but not Michael when he is with them on the same boat???

The freighter crew must've received files of the 815 people but someone (Ben/Michael etc.) could've removed/altered some so the crew wouldn't know about Michael?

That or he's been shoveling coal under the deck all this time Very Happy
