Leave it a short while. Ive installed Vista on a lot of machines and Ive noticed times duing the installation that it appears to hang but has in fact installed successfully. They should have put a progress indicator on there. Just listen to your drive and if its still accessing its probably still working. If there is no activity or the drive sounds are looping then there could be a problem.
May the NFOrce be with you always.

Why do you want to use Vista anyway? 64bit XP is easily as good, if not better, for 64bit coding.

No 32bit xp cannot be upgraded to 64bit xp. You have to call Microsoft Support and turn in your 32bit key and for 40 euro get a 64bit key in exchange.

WORKING! Seems my DVD is just utterly dead in Vista, works fine in XP but put anything into the drive while in vista and the system freezes up! Any thoughts?

I had problems with my DVD burner until I upgraded the firmware.

Uurghh.. well, with Vista installed I found sound/games/videos to be very choppy from time to time. As I couldn't find a solid solution I'm going to install XP64 and see if that solves the problems!

try to start rivatuner pliz
not to mention it's using 1 gig of ram while idle with numerous services off, it's nothing but pretty interface which u can get with xp, plus dx10 is a joke, i've tried and seen absolutely no major difference comparing to dx9 and games run crappier on it, especially dx9 ones

Interesting but I'll have a bash. To have code integrity for kernel mode security implemented or not? I'll take mine enabled thanks. But let see, if Alfredo can provide a digitally signed driver for SpeedFan and Unwinder can't for RivaTuner, that's completely Vista's fault is it? It's his refusal to adhere to KMCS and consequently the fee involved for Verisign certification that is the problem with RivaTuner.
Memory management in Vista crushes XP's. I don't give a monkeys that Vista consumes 7GB for Superfetch, why? Because my system is way more responsive than XP ever was.
Gaming was indeed dire on the Vista RTM of old, thanks to shit graphics drivers. However, just to remind you, it's 2008 now Mortibus, gaming on a decent Vista system is on par with XP. Your comment on Directx10 however I completely agree with.
Won't it be fun when all the hate starts again but this time with Windows 7 ...

vista begins trashing in couple of hours and requires either log off or reboot
xp can work solid 24/7
couldn't care less about integrity for kernel mode security crap. sorry
i prefer stability instead of headache
yet again m$ making money on beta testers, maybe in couple of years vista will gain same stability as xp now, but for now it's pretty crappy and yes my rig is more than enough to play most of the new games with decent settings [excluding crysis joke], magically it manages to do that in xp and not in vista where it begins to lag after a while cause vista starting to consume enormous amount of ram for no apparent reason, explorer once hit 200 mb, for what?
anyway to each it's own but vista is pretty much unfinished as xp was when it was out first

i work at tech support and 9 out of 10 ppl asking me to install Xp after they getting prebuild pc's/laptop's with vista already installed, why is that i wonder?

Not over one year after it was released it wasn't.
And no, everyone will not use it. At the moment Vista has around 13% of the desktop market. That's after a year. That is hilarious.
I will never switch to Vista. Maybe, just maybe I will switch to Windows 7 if things are better then, but I don't see any incentive whatsoever to switch from XP at the moment.
