I just want to know before I'll get swallowed by a black hole.

oh god! people still believe the end of the world from the LHC?

Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted, but to weigh and consider.

To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.

In all your remembering, remember that you have choices

I'm waiting for the possible discovery of the Higgs bozon... If they find it it would make such changes in my future studies... It's very interesting...

interesting. Wink

The Higgs boson is a hypothetical massive scalar elementary particle predicted to exist by the Standard Model of particle physics. It is the only Standard Model particle not yet observed, but would help explain how otherwise massless elementary particles still manage to construct mass in matter. In particular, it would explain the difference between the massless photon and the relatively massive W and Z bosons. Elementary particle masses, and the differences between electromagnetism (caused by the photon) and the weak force (caused by the W and Z bosons), are critical to many aspects of the structure of microscopic (and hence macroscopic) matter; thus, if it exists, the Higgs boson has an enormous effect on the world around us.

Ask your girlfriend what is means. Laughing But seriously, read it over again, keep you mind clear, don't interfere with the information as you receive it. Its really quite simple when you stop being intimidated by the jargon. The more we understand the nature of the smallest particles the more we are able to predict the actions of the largest things. Just think with enough of a grasp of particle physics we should be able to draw a fuel supply right out of thin air. Teleport, materialize objects just by plugging in a formula for it. Wink

same here... maybe the scientists made up that name because they are so excited about it and then just switched the 2 letters to make it public Wink

Just a simple elementary particle stuff... I've read the article about that some months ago. It's interesting because on my uni we have class named Physics of Elementary Particles, on fourth or fifth year, and since I want to study theoretical physics, I can't wait to see what will happen. Some people here in Cro in one of research institutes will be connected to CERN and recieve data from LHC, and we have few of our men working in CERN so it's kinda a big deal here Wink

I can't wait to hear the results from these experiments! If they get the results they are expecting this could become one of the biggest discoveries of all time.

But actually it would be cool if they created black holes in that thing.

And you would like scientists to create some huge black holes that would end our solar system? Sad

I don't think there's a definite timeline, that website with the countdown isn't accurate, it just resets everytime it reaches the end. Some people say it could be the first time machine, that would be cool.

I read a few weeks ago that it was due to be switched-on last Monday and it would take about six weeks to warm up before they can start smashing atoms.

well actually they could have activate it like several months ago, but they need to cool down the giant magnets to 4 K (-269,15°C) to become superconductive, that is the main reason why this is taking so long...
