i dont see a difference, aside from the shadows looking worse in the forest scene
they intentionally made them look worse btw. games 10 years ago had higer res shadows than this
@fable2 Shadows and reflections are always blurry and “boiling” because they are very low res, from a very few rays. nSlopia’s ray reconstruction helps a little, but there is so much it can do. And I agree the result is embarrassing and minuscule difference at best.
I was talking about the Shadows in the RTX OFF scene being low res intentionally actually, sry for not being clear with my wording.
As for the RTX ON shadows, i think they look blurry because of Contact Hardening and Variable Penumbra.
It doesn't help that the entire presentation has Chromatic aberration and Vignette dialed up way too high.
Even for that, we've had techniques to create physically correct hard/soft shadows based on light distance. See e.g. Red Dead Redemption 2's shadows. These dumb studios no longer bother implementing these techniques because rayz trazingz omgz0rz. Even the original GTA5 had good shadow softening options.
Man... I gotta be honest. I'm looking forward to this. It will properly be bland.
It's hitman... Just not boring? As in slow and meticulously. Where you have to plan the same mission over and over again, to finally get it - and THEN it's fun.
I’ve been hurt before, but I'm ready to be let down again
Always a good idea to blow 30% of your budget on the intro sequence song that the player hears maybe twice during the entire experience. Not like that money could be better spent elsewhere...
My guess is they've gone all in with this one, betting the future of the company on it. I haven't looked at information on Hitman success, but even if somewhat successful for its niche, it has a much lower ceiling than a game like this.
Lets be honest with ourselves - Hitman is the only game IO Interactive know how to make. The only reason the studio has continued to exist up until this point is that single series. It's all they've been making since 2000 for fucks sake (with short breaks for Freedom Fighters and Kane & Lynch, which they abandoned almost immediately).
As much as a proper James Bond game would be cool, the more footage I see of this the more it comes across as merely a reskinned Hitman with perhaps slightly improved shooting. They've poured the money in the glitz, gloss, and glamour, with Hollywood singers belting out songs, flashy visuals, etc. , but nothing I'm seeing shows much in the way of the underlying core systems or engine being markedly improved.
Could be wrong (and would be happy to be, honestly). We'll see...
I reckon it could work as long as it's not a technical mess, kind of like playing the adventures of Agent 47's goofy reckless little brother where you press a button and the awesome happens
Still, IO are probably overestimating the general appeal of the 007 franchise in gaming (not too different from Bethesda's approach to Indiana Jones) - time will tell I guess. They especially need a win after their first game as publishers was the legendary MindsEye
So the game should not have crouching, shoot-outs, or animations of certain things if you shoot or do something that triggers that particular animation?
It would be so easy to take his favorite game, then in a VERY annoyed voice just say "Using an item! Planning your moves! Kill the enemies!" like its bad mechanics because you can say these things with an annoyed tone. Instead, maybe argue what the alternatives would be?
I mean, this doesnt look ground breaking. But when the hell does that happen, and why would that be expected out of this? This does not look like it was made to be ground breaking or like a niche game at all, not advertised as such either.
I mean, he's probably very much burned out at this point. I get it, I am too. I too roll my eyes at some of this crap, and I had no expectations from this. The problem is, this is his "career", like most utubs. What else is he going to do? Go back bouncing in bars? So he has to churn content multiple times a week, and when only shite comes out, he is even more frustrated. He can't just take a few months off to rekindle his passion in gaming (if at all possible at this point), so this is the result.
You have to wonder why hurrpadurrps continue posting his crap here, when everyone seems to be against it.
I agree with him on the x-ray vision, and it was pleasing and funny to hear him rant about it.
Now he's just trying to apply this to everything, to trigger our old man angry-fist in the air feelings, but that doesn't work. there are obviously mechanics in modern games that are bad, and there are other mechanics which are just there because that's where we are at, tech wise, when you shoot something an animation might get triggered (dude gets electrocuted or whatever). How is that annoying?
Seems like he at least mentions Medal of Honor Allied Assault as a reference to incredible stealth. I am wondering if that is true or just nostalgia speaking. Never played it.
